chemical peel new haven
With so many peels available, which is the best peel for you? Chemical Peels play an important role in maintaining your overall skin health. Peels when used properly can assist with cellular turnover, diminish fine lines and wrinkles. Although there are numerous peels that go by many different names, there are 3 main classifications which all peels fall under: superficial peels, medium and deep peels. At Yolo we offer all three types and determine what we use based on your concerns, budget and the level of “downtime”. It is our Philosophy, as well as the the philosophy of most top Plastic Surgeons, that deep chemical peels are outdated and unreliable. Deep chemical peels are often referred to as “The poor man’s laser,” therefore we choose to use more reliable methods such as erbium or Fractionated CO2 laser peels. Here is a summary of the peels we offer: Superficial peelsNo downtime or the lunchtime peel Grape wine peel: A natural alternative to Glycolic but just as effective. This peel is a mixture of fruit acids that is gentle yet effective. This peel will brighten the skin as well as remove the outermost layer of dead dry skin. This peel is often combined with a facial or microdermabrasion and could be performed weekly. Lactic acid peel: Derived from milk this is a gentlest peel we offer and is most often combined with facials, microderabrasion or dermaplaning. Glycolic peel: We offer varying strengths of medical grade glycolic peels that vary from no downtime to light flaking. Which strength we use depends on multiple factors and is always discussed with you prior to performing the service. Medium peels: Light to moderate flaking for 3-10 days Salicylic– This peel is used to treat acne prone skin. Salicylic acid is highly effective for acne and oily skins. It is oil-soluble and lipophilic so it penetrates sebum filled follicles and helps to unclog pores, loosen and lift out blackheads, even out skin tone, and prevent future outbreaks. Salicylic acid blends powerful skin exfoliation. Your skin will “frost” and then turn red and peel. This peel should be done in a series to achieve the best result. Used on face, back and chest. Contraindicated if you are allergic to aspirin. Shoreline peel-This a special blend of acids and other ingredients that is more aggressive. You might experience light to medium flaking, however you can still wear makeup during the 7 day healing process. Melasma peel- This peel is specifically formulated to lighten stubborn hyperpigmentation. A pre-post treatment regimen is offered to yield the best results. Specialty peels: Eye and Lip peel: This peel utilizes a gel pen that can be applied to the upper lids as well as around the mouth to soften lines and reduce pigmentation under the eyes. No downtime is experienced with this peel. Best done in a series 1 x a week for 4 weeks and then as needed for maintenance. Rosacea peel: This peel is a miracle for Rosacea sufferers and utilizes the unique qualities of the Mandelic Acid to minimize intermittent to permanent redness. Best done 1 /week for 4 weeks and can be combined with BBL/Laser and/or our Redness reduction kit for optimal results. Deep Peels: We offer the latest technology and customize several options depending on your specific concern. Laser peels treat lip lines, dark circles, age spots, wrinkles and stimulate collagen. In our opinion, our laser peel is the fountain of youth and can turn back the clock 5-10 years. Downtime varies from 5-10 days. A consult is necessary prior to booking. Important facts to consider with any peel: If you suffer from Rosacea the Rosacea peel is the only peel we recommend. If you have a history of cold sores a peel may aggravate the condition and you should consult your Physician prior to having a peel. We cannot perform peels if you are pregnant, used Accutane in the past year, or have had waxing services to the area to be treated 7 days prior. If you are on Retin A, Retinol or a Vitamin A derivative you may peel more if you have not discontinued the use of the product 7 days prior to your appointment. Sun protection is required post peel. Everyone’s skin is different and individuals may respond differently to each peel. The above information is provided as a guideline. Client’s with darker complexions are more prone to complications and should have a consultation prior to booking any peel service.
